UPDATE: LXNM is not under active development. It is suggested to use NetworkManager and nm-applet (which are now working very well, in 2010 and 2011).
LXNM is the standard network connection helper daemon of LXDE. It sets up wireless connections extremely fast. Currently it works with Linux only.
It is under development, and LXDE packages for many or all distros still use NetworkManager.
It could also make sense to switch to Intel's Connection Manager: http://v1.moblin.org/projects/projects_connman.php in cases where LXNM isn't sufficient.
