I think requirung people to post to the mailing list to have the proxy temporarily unblocked is not an option, especially as we give them no instructions what to do.

::I think, of the things you said, that email confirmation before first edit is a good solution. It wil stop the bots as they mostly have no email set in the preferences. The site-admin could implement this if everyone on the mailing list agrees with this. --[[User:Wiki13|Wiki13]] 12:12, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Deblock of IP

Hi Cwickert, I saw that you deblocked the proxy here The block had a clear reason: keeping the spambots out of this wiki. I don't have any idea to keep these out without blocking this webistes' proxy service. This need to stop and unblocking that IP will not solve the problem at all. Any ideas? --Wiki13 10:48, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Let us please discuss this on the mailing list and I already wrote something there. Some ideas:
  • no anonymous editing
  • stronger captchas for registration
  • email confirmation before first edit
  • get rid of the proxy
  • block bots already in apache instead of the wiki
I think requirung people to post to the mailing list to have the proxy temporarily unblocked is not an option, especially as we give them no instructions what to do.

I think, of the things you said, that email confirmation before first edit is a good solution. It wil stop the bots as they mostly have no email set in the preferences. The site-admin could implement this if everyone on the mailing list agrees with this. --Wiki13 12:12, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
PS: I thought already some time on disabling the proxy and installing CheckUser so we can block spamming IP's.
