Spam

Hi, how can I help you combat spam? --Marko (talk) 08:06, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

By convincing the LXDE people they need to start with a new installation of MediaWiki (the wiki system) and MySQL database - this one contains a lot of rubbish (deleted spam), making the search go very slow. Further, we need some anti-spam tools to be installed. It would be far easier to have FTP access, but I don't know if that's doable.
I am deleting the spam with a script for Actionaz. This is semi-automated. I use Multi Links to open 100's of tabs at the same time. Once they're loaded, I click run in Actionaz and the spam pages get removed. Some fail (for several reasons) to be deleted. These must be deleted manually. It does not take that long.
Since I am limited in my technical way of doing things (see above what I need), these days just consist of removing Spam. Since we don't have a unified logon system (for the German wiki, for example) I also have to login and logout several times for different wikis.
I assume you are running Linux, have a look here to download and install actionaz: http://actionaz.org
To obtain the script, you can contact me at any time: http://hugsmile.eu/en/contact
Kind regards,

I've been using PyWikiBot https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Pywikibot to put spam pages into Category:Spam before I go through and delete it.
Check it out if you haven't looked into it. DeathCamel57 (talk) 21:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Nuke Extension

Is there access by you to the configuration php files of the MediaWiki installation? This version of MediaWiki comes with the Nuke Extension that just has to be enabled. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Nuke I'd really appreciate that addon being enabled. It'll let me delete the entire Category:Spam in a couple clicks... DeathCamel57 (talk) 21:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi. I moved this section to the bottom of the page because that's standard in the MediaWiki world :). I don't have access to any of the installation files. I suggest you get in touch on the LXDE mailing list, but I usually don't receive a response (or very late) regarding my mails about LXDE wiki. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 19:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
How would I go about getting on the mailing list?
The DNS information is for a Jen-Yee Hong. Would he be the proper person to contact about this? DeathCamel57 (talk) 19:30, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes he could probably help. The mailing list is here: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/lxde-list Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 19:43, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Anything else you think should be done with the wiki? I asked about updating MediaWiki, and enabling the Nuke Extension.
"Hey
Alf Gaida is the person to contact. Here cc'd.
J. Leclanche" <- A reply to the email I sent to the domain name owner...
I guess I'm getting my request moved up the chain of command DeathCamel57 (talk) 01:52, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
There are a lot of anti-spam extensions for MediaWiki, it would be nice to have a few of them installed. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 07:51, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
He added Special:Nuke. He didn't say anything about updating MediaWiki or anything else. Email me at deathcamel57@gmail.com if you have any questions, or anything that I should forward to him DeathCamel57 (talk) 03:51, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Probably should add the Category:Spam and Special:Nuke to the spam section of your userspace page... Please don't make Category:Spam a link to the spam category. I wouldn't want my bot to accidentally delete your page. I do manually check for false positives, but mistakes happen. Again, probably should add a note on your user page, but don't like to Category:Spam. DeathCamel57 (talk) 05:34, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
