Hi, how can I help you combat spam? --Marko (talk) 08:06, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

By convincing the LXDE people they need to start with a new installation of MediaWiki (the wiki system) and MySQL database - this one contains a lot of rubbish (deleted spam), making the search go very slow. Further, we need some anti-spam tools to be installed. It would be far easier to have FTP access, but I don't know if that's doable.
I am deleting the spam with a script for Actionaz. This is semi-automated. I use Multi Links to open 100's of tabs at the same time. Once they're loaded, I click run in Actionaz and the spam pages get removed. Some fail (for several reasons) to be deleted. These must be deleted manually. It does not take that long.
Since I am limited in my technical way of doing things (see above what I need), these days just consist of removing Spam. Since we don't have a unified logon system (for the German wiki, for example) I also have to login and logout several times for different wikis.
I assume you are running Linux, have a look here to download and install actionaz:
To obtain the script, you can contact me at any time:
Kind regards,

I've been using PyWikiBot to put spam pages into Category:Spam before I go through and delete it.
Check it out if you haven't looked into it. DeathCamel57 (talk) 21:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Nuke Extension

Is there access by you to the configuration php files of the MediaWiki installation? This version of MediaWiki comes with the Nuke Extension that just has to be enabled. I'd really appreciate that addon being enabled. It'll let me delete the entire Category:Spam in a couple clicks... DeathCamel57 (talk) 21:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi. I moved this section to the bottom of the page because that's standard in the MediaWiki world :). I don't have access to any of the installation files. I suggest you get in touch on the LXDE mailing list, but I usually don't receive a response (or very late) regarding my mails about LXDE wiki. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 19:14, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
How would I go about getting on the mailing list?
The DNS information is for a Jen-Yee Hong. Would he be the proper person to contact about this? DeathCamel57 (talk) 19:30, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Yes he could probably help. The mailing list is here: Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 19:43, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
Anything else you think should be done with the wiki? I asked about updating MediaWiki, and enabling the Nuke Extension.
Alf Gaida is the person to contact. Here cc'd.
J. Leclanche" <- A reply to the email I sent to the domain name owner...
I guess I'm getting my request moved up the chain of command DeathCamel57 (talk) 01:52, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
There are a lot of anti-spam extensions for MediaWiki, it would be nice to have a few of them installed. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 07:51, 7 November 2016 (UTC)
He added Special:Nuke. He didn't say anything about updating MediaWiki or anything else. Email me at if you have any questions, or anything that I should forward to him DeathCamel57 (talk) 03:51, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Probably should add the Category:Spam and Special:Nuke to the spam section of your userspace page... Please don't make Category:Spam a link to the spam category. I wouldn't want my bot to accidentally delete your page. I do manually check for false positives, but mistakes happen. Again, probably should add a note on your user page, but don't like to Category:Spam. DeathCamel57 (talk) 05:34, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for restoring pages lost in colleteral damage during mass deleting. It's really hard to see legimate pages between all the spam. --Wiki13 (talk) 11:14, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

You're welcome. Please note a list of most of the legimate pages is available. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 11:17, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind on my next run. Will check on more damage after this run finishes. --Wiki13 (talk) 11:19, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 11:21, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Guess I have to thank you yet again, It seems even checking over and over before deleting (which I did like 2 or 3 times to actually make sure I wouldnt delete them I somehows still missed them even using the oldest page you gave me... --Wiki13 (talk) 09:41, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
No problem. Hopefully the spam is now gone. Kind regards, Smile4ever (talk) 11:10, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Probably have to do one more big run before its all gone I assume (will do that some time later in the future, but the biggest part is now done). I think after that we can focus on keeping spam off this wiki. --Wiki13 (talk) 11:49, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Hello! It must be a drag having fake accounts being disruptive and creating off-topic articles. I know that you have the abuse filter here to block those vandals, but the abuse filter is not faster than my blocking powers. Make me an admin and those fake accounts will be blocked and their off-topic articles will be deleted. I'm here to ensure that LXDE wiki is what it should be, a user-made encyclopedia, and not a playground for vandals. That is why I decided to join this project - to protect this site from spam and to make fantastic contributions. --SilverHairedGirl (talk) 16:14, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Nice to meet you. Please inform yourself of LXDE:WikiUserGuide before "optimizing" pages further. I noticed in quite some occasions you removed whitespace between categories and interwikis. Also, you removed spaces in front of commands which were added for readability: the MediaWiki software formats lines beginning with a space as commands making it easier to distinguish the text from the commands. You can put the template {{Spam}} on an article or user page to get it deleted. Regarding your question. I think it's too early to add you as an administrator, but if you keep being active and helping to combat spam I can reconsider your request again.
