One of the most important functions of the government is the keeping of official records because this is acknowledged as the best way that the government could inform their constituents about the things that they have done and are planning to do. The right to information is something that no government could withhold from their constituents. Of course, these records contain information that would be of much importance to the people of the community, and it is precisely because of such importance that public records like New Jersey Public Records are supposed to be available to the public at all times.

It must, however, be noted that these records, while dependable, are limited in the sense that they would only show information that would be related to the type of record that they are and if the information is not reflected upon the four corners of the record that has been requested, then the record could not confirm that that which may necessarily be inferred from what is written on the record. An example of this would be the fact that death records could not actually confirm the fact of the birth of the person who had died even if that be obvious. Divorce records could also not prove the fact of the marriage even if that is obvious as well.

The reason why these records are very dependable would be because they are official records, and this means that the contents of the records in question are deemed to be true and accurate at all times, subject to certain restrictions. The most important of these restrictions would be the fact that the presumption does not apply if the records were not obtained from the official sources. Another restriction would be the fact that the presumption applies only if there could be no competent evidence that would seem to indicate that the contents of the records in question are false. If there are, then the person who would present the copies of the records in question would be bound to prove that the contents of the records are true and accurate.

A request for copies of the public records could be done from a number of offices, though the most important thing that must be remembered when making the request for copies of the records would be that there are some records that the law identifies an official custodian for. When the law does this, the record in question may only be requested from such office and nowhere else. The actual method for making the request would depend on the office where the request would be made, but in general, there are two methods that could be used when making the request, which would be to make the request in person and to make the request through the mail.

New Jersey Court Records Public Access may also be done online through the use of online databases. Such databases are mostly not government owned or operated, hence, they do not enjoy the presumption, but the information that they could provide would be substantially the same as that which may be found from the official archives, and they are also easier to access and use.
